| Update |
| The 2009 season is now in full swing and we've had a reasonable start, amassing 15 points from the first 5 games of the season. The first game of the season saw Whitehall travel to Mount, and after a distinctly forgettable 3 hours in the field Mount had posted a mammoth 291. Simon Mace's 4-76 was the highlight of their innings. In reply Whitehall posted 54-7 to get a well earned point from the game. Next up for Whitehall was the visit of Wibsey Park Chapel. Wibsey batted first and posted and posted 125 in only 21 overs. Simon Mace took 3 of his 4 wickets and Aidan Dunne two as Wibsey were restricted to 50-5, however a 6th wicket partnership saw Wibsey looking to get away before Chris Thompson tore through their middle order take 4-33, before Simon took the final wicket to end with figures of 4-53. In reply Whitehall got off to a bad start with Dave Bond playing falling to the 2nd ball of the innings. Captain Michael Wood and Aidan Dunne steadied the innings with a second wicket partnership of 56, before Wood fell for 7 and Aidan soon after 4 short of his half century. This brought debutants Al Bevan (30*) and Simon Patel (12) who took the score to 76, before Simon Mace (4) came to the crease and help ease the score towards 100. Anthony Petch (10*) joined Al with the score at 94, but 8 overs later Whitehall eased past their target to finish on 128-5 to give Whitehall their first victory of the season. Next up for Whitehall was the first of 2 visits to Farnley Park to play New Farnley B. A very good effort by the 9 men of Whitehall in the field in restricting New Farnley to 167-9 from their 45 overs. The pick of the bowling was undoubtedly Aidan Dunne's first 5 wicket haul for only 17 runs. Whitehall battled vainly to chase the target, however ultimately fell 97 runs short. Paul Dockerty's 23 and Aidan Dunne's 21 were the top scores in the innings. Whitehall's 2nd home game of the season saw the visit of Pudsey St Lawrence. A fine start by Whitehall saw PSL restricted to 50-9 before a dogged 10th wicket stand saw Whitehall needing 87 to win. Aidan again the pick of the bowling with 4-14. Whitehall's chase started well, with the only interruption being the weather. The first wicket to fall was captain Michael Wood as he fell for 21 with the score on 62, with the game nearly won Paul Dockerty fell LBW for 51. But Whitehall managed to win the game by 7 wickets with Aidan Dunne scoring the last of his 7 runs. For the first time this year the weather beat Whitehall as their first visit to Undercliffe was called off due to an unplayable ground. |
