| Whitehall fail to turn up |
| Whitehall travelled to Bedquilts to face the division's bottom side Castlehill, less than a month from the victory over them at Becketts Park. Whitehall made 2 changes from the side that toiled away for a point at Wibsey, injured Martin was unavailable as was Paul, so Steve returned from his steamy weekend off and Petch made up the 11. So Whitehall lined up as follows: S Haw, M Wright, A Dunne, D Wright, S Mace, J Bainbridge, M Wood, P White, A Petch, C Thompson, D Elsey. With Dean taking over the gloves again. Like every league game before we won the toss and elected to field. Things started well for Whitehall with both Simon and Joe only conceding 1 run each from their opening over. In the fourth over Whitehall struck first with Chris taking a wonderful catch off the bowling of Joe to dismiss Newboult, and Castlehill were 15-1. Whitehall had now got well on top and both batsmen were struggling to get any runs and after 11 overs they were stuck on 24-1. In the 12th over of the game Joe managed to get captain Keane to miss time a stroke through the covers and the ball looped up to Woody who took a routine catch. This brought Allen to the crease, and for the next few overs Whitehall spurned chance after chance after chance as Allen and Young struggled to cope with Simon and Joe's bowling. However the chances dried up, and Allen took to Simon's bowling especially and went on a rampage which Whitehall had now answer for. A long spell in the field ensued and Allen and Young managed to take the score to 105 before Simon bowled Young for 30. Whitehall had a similar chance as the week earlier to get themselves back in the game, but as last week they failed to. As Allen, now helped my Mablebeck helped themselves to more runs before Simon finally manage to get Allen stumped after some good keeping work from Dean, but unfortunately he'd scored 93 and helped Castlehill to 163. The fifth wicket batted through the 45 overs and took the score to 189. Whitehall were well and truly behind the 8 ball. Thins started reasonably well for Whitehall as Steve and Mick set about the Castlehill bowling, but Mick was out for 13 with the score at 20, and then Aidan carried on and carried Whitehall onto 57-1. This was soon to change as in Mablebeck's 3rd over he had Aidan caught for 26, 2 balls later the wicket keeper took a difficult chance (after dropping far easier ones) to dismiss Dean for 0 without troubling the scorers. After this Whitehall set about getting the game back on track with Steve and Simon batting well. But after a partnership of 39 between Steve and Simon, Steve was bowled by Maplebeck for 24. This sparked a collapse with Joe falling the next over. Wood and Simon batted for a few overs together, before Simon got an unlucky LBW decision, and that really sparked the end, Wood fell the over after and 6 overs later Whitehall had been dismissed for 119, with no batsman after 6 scoring 10 and only adding 19 to the total. The less said about today the better really. |
